WHO WE ARE
CRI is comprised of a group of multi-discipline, senior pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals experienced in all facets of CRI's business model. Our team includes:

R.C. McLauchlan
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Russ founded Calvert Holdings in March 1996 following twenty-six years in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He has led the company through its acquisition and internal development of key units resulting in an operation capable of providing significant drug testing and development, capital investment, management, and media services for emerging biodiscovery and other business organizations.

Prior to founding Calvert, Russ served as president with an early stage pharmaceutical company and a biotechnology company and as an executive with a multinational pharmaceutical/chemical company. He also served as a board member of national and state biotechnology trade associations.

Andy Burch
Vice President
Andy, founder and President of Carolina Securities, manages the company's investment banking services and is a principal in Calvert Research Institute. He has spent his career in the fund management and investment banking industry and has served as President, Triangle (NC) Bank, and Senior VP of BB&T (NC).

Lonnie Bookbinder, Ph.D.
West Coast Regional Director
Dr. Lonnie Bookbinder has worked in the biopharmaceutical industry since 1969 holding multiple positions in pharmaceutical and laboratory sales as well as clinical research before founding his first company, in 1982, providing management and marketing services to doctors, hospitals and companies in the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industry. In 1990, Lonnie joined Russ McLauchlan as Director of Business Development at Immunomedics and then held senior VP positions at Nycomed-Salutar, Ribi ImmunoChem and later became COO of CellPath. In 1998, Dr. Bookbinder provided CEO and Board-level guidance to young biotech companies and subsequently co-founded several companies with long-time business associates

In 2007, Lonnie re-joined Russ McLauchlan, founder of Calvert Research Institute (CRI), as West Coast Regional Director of CRI. He will be utilizing his 38 years of experience in all aspects of product development representing CRI as the strategic partner for universities, researchers and biotech companies with innovative and potentially curative technology and product candidates.

Roger Nolan, Ph.D.
Senior Director, Science & Technology Evaluation
Roger has twenty years of experience in the biotechnology-pharmaceutical industry, including both academic and industrial positions. As a specialist in strategic drug development, both at the pre-clinical and clinical levels, Roger has worked for both pharmaceutical operations, such as Insmed Pharmaceuticals, and contract research organizations, such as Cato Research and Health Decisions. He has experience in several therapeutic areas, including diabetes, oncology, stroke, and respiratory. Roger has a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and post-doctoral training at Burroughs Wellcome in signal transduction.

Kathy Meserve
Director, Science & Technology Evaluation
Kathy joined Calvert Research Institute as Director of Portfolio development with sixteen years of experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. This experience includes ten years in the laboratory environment (mainly in formulation development) and the remaining years in project management, portfolio management and business development. In her years at Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline and start-up companies, she has worked with projects in a variety of therapeutic areas across several stages of drug development: early drug discovery, preclinical development, clinical stage and product launch. In her role at Calvert, she is responsible for identifying and evaluating new potential partners, evaluating the business value of the portfolio of partnered and in-licensed compounds, and managing ongoing projects via the consortium of Calvert’s business partners.

Sara Shen
Business Analyst
Sara is originally from Shanghai, China and holds an MBA and MS degree in Economics from the University of Central Florida. She also has a degree in Applied Mathematics from Tongji University in Shanghai. Sara's focus at CRI includes research and analysis of potential investments and markets.
